Body found may be missing Stone Mountain man

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Authorities in Stone Mountain are trying to determine if a newly discovered body is that of a missing 83-year-old man.

According to police, Thomas Walker Jr. was last seen the morning of June 20 at his home on Sheppard Road.

Walker, who has dementia and diabetes, was wearing black jeans, a blue and white striped shirt, black socks and no shoes.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, authorities say a body was discovered in a vehicle near the area of Walker's home. The DeKalb Medical Examiner's Office is attempting to identify the body.

While it is too early to determine the cause of death, the statement indicated the initial examination did not show any signs of foul play.

Due to his dementia, Walker is said to have trouble communicating. He is likely in need of medical attention due to diabetes.

Search efforts are being held daily at 9 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. They begin at 601 Mountain Springs Drive.
