Back on Feb. 15, a homeowner in that neighborhood, Precious Hatcher, said residents had been begging the county for more than five years to do something about the abandoned property on Wood Path Lane.

Current, former Lithonia officers call for chief's firing


LITHONIA, Ga. -- A group of current and former Lithonia police officers is now joining together and calling for the city's police chief to be fired.

Police Chief Roosevelt Smith is under investigation for charges of excessive force but officers said that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Aspiring actress from Stone Mountain killed in accident in southeast Ga.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- Police say an aspiring actress has been killed after she was struck while dealing with car trouble in southeast Georgia.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Eunicia Baker says 30-year-old Thadea Williams of Stone Mountain died after the accident that occurred around 3:13 a.m. Sunday.

Williams was in the front passenger seat of a Hyundai Accent driven by 31-year-old Antiqua Walker when they pulled over and exited the car to look at the cause of a check-engine notification.

Baker says Williams was struck by a Chevrolet Camaro driven by 35-year-old Jacoby Minor. Baker says a passenger of the Camaro placed Williams in the car and drove her to Chandler Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Father of teen allegedly harmed by police chief wants apology

LITHONIA, Ga. -- The father of a teenager allegedly choked by Lithonia's police chief is calling for an apology and justice.

As 11Alive reported on Wednesday, the city of Lithonia is investigating a complaint of excessive force after Isiah Lee Harvey says he was choked while handcuffed.

According to a Lithonia Police incident report, Harvey was one of two men arrested for an alleged burglary on Feb. 5. The report said Harvey ran from police when they arrived at a burglarized home and escaped into a woodline. Police set up a perimeter and quickly found and arrested him.

Man dies after being pulled from house fire

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The man rescued from a house fire on Feb. 23rd has died.

According to DeKalb fire officials, the fire broke out at a home in the 1600 block of Hidden Hills Pkwy.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
