Meet The Harlem Globetrotters this Saturday at the Atlanta Greyhound Terminal

The Original Harlem Globetrotters are coming to Atlanta. Before you head out for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, bring your kids to meet the Harlem Globetrotters! Greyhound is the Globetrotters official North American tour carrier and in celebration of their partnership, Greyhound Bus is giving you the opportunity to meet the team, take pictures and get their autographs.

The details:

·         When: Saturday, Mar. 17, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.

o   10:00 a.m. – 10:40 a.m.: Globetrotter’s perform “Magic Circle” Routine

o   10:40 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.: Jerry Clark Foundation, bloggers and media can meet the team, take pictures and get autographs with the team

Baseball & Softball Registration begins Dec. 4, 2011 to March 10, 2012 The season will start Saturday, March 31, 2012.
Where: Redan Recreation Center (1839 Phillips Road, Lithonia GA 30058).
When: Tuesday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.     Soccer Registration begins Dec. 12, 2011 to Feb. 13, 2012 Register at any DeKalb County Recreation Center.     Flag Football Registration begins Dec. 4, 2011 to March 10, 2012 Where: Redan Recreation Center (1839 Phillips Road, Lithonia GA 30058).

Atlanta Hawks to award $10,000 to Dekalb Alternative School

Dekalb - Today at 2:30pm, Atlanta Hawks forward Marvin Williams will be visiting the Dekalb Alternative School  to award them with a $10,000 check that they will use for a school makeover and an Atlanta Hawks Reading Zone.  The Reading Zone will become a space inside the school for students to learn while experiencing the joy of reading.

Nominations for the Reading Zone were accepted between August 2 and September 9, 2011 from organizations within 50 miles of Philips Arena that serve youth under the age of 18.

Falcons honor high school coaches at weekend luncheon

 

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Falcons hosted their Fourth Annual Salute to High School Football Luncheon on Saturday, December 10. Local coaches like Jess Simpson from Buford High School, Gary Varner from Allatoona High School, and Michael Carson from MLK Jr. High School were honored according to their classification.

The luncheon, held at the Georgia World Congress Center, was sponsored by the AirTran Airways, hhgreggm and Russell Athletic, among others. Former Falcon, Alge Crumpler served as keynote speaker for the event.  

Also, honored at the event was Dave Hunter, a legendary coach at Brookwood High School; Hunter was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. Also honored at the ceremony was Cameron Sutton of Jonesboro High School,  he was awarded with the Warrick Dunn Captain in the Community of the Year Award.

The Falcons will host a football clinic for high school coaches, next spring.

WNBA's Atlanta Dream to bring "crash your court" to Tucker High School on Friday

Tucker - The defending WNBA Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream, in partnership with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, is bringing its "Crash Your Court" halftime show to the 2nd annual DeKalb Elite Hardwood Classic. The tournament features teams representing 12 state championships.

"Crash the Court" brings the experience of a professional basketball game to top girls' high school tournaments. The event features Atlanta Dream guard Lindsey Harding and includes appearances by in-game host C.J. Simpson and team mascot Star, giveaways, contests, and performances by the Shooting Stars cheer team.

Stephenson High football star to play in All-American Bowl

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- A standout athlete at Stone Mountain's Stephenson High School has been selected to play in the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl next month.

Mike Davis will join the annual East v. West football match-up, which will be televised live on NBC from San Antonio, Texas at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7.

"Mike is a talented athlete whose leadership and teamwork qualities have made him a standout at Stephenson High School," said John Myers, director of communications for the U.S. Army Accessions Command.

Expect road closures on Sunday as runners discover Atlanta one mile at a time at the Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay on Sunday, October 30, 2011. The 26.2 mile urban course starts and finishes at Atlantic Station taking participants on a tour of Atlanta past well-known Atlanta sites and neighborhoods such as Georgia Tech, Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia Aquarium, Turner Field, Grant Park, Oakland Cemetery, Martin Luther King Center, Piedmont Park, Buckhead and the famous Peachtree Road.
