Will Gwinnett County Win $1 Million in Broad Prize Scholarships?

Atlanta, GA--  On Oct. 19, District Officials will watch the Webcast Announcement of the Nation’s Most Improved Urban School District, in hopes that Gwinnett County Public schools will be awarded.

Gwinnett County Public Schools is one of five school districts in America competing for the 2010 Broad Prize, the largest education award in the country that carries with it $1 million in college scholarships for high school seniors in the winning district.

ATDC coming to UGA Gwinnett campus

Atlanta, GA (Atlanta Business Chronicle) --The Georgia Tech-based Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC) will branch out to a new facility at The University of Georgia-Gwinnett Campus.

Started in 1980, ATDC has become a start-up engine for economic and business development in Georgia. The new Gwinnett location will bring more technology-based economic development to Gwinnett and provide educational programming and consulting for existing and potential entrepreneurs outside the ATDC’s existing Midtown location.

Georgia’s Largest Public School Plans Back-to-School Outing at Stone Mountain

Atlanta, GA--  Georgia Cyber Academy (GCA), Georgia’s largest public school, plans to kick off their year with a back-to-school outing at Stone Mountain Park on Friday.  This event helps educate families interested in GCA about the benefits of an online public school education and an opportunity for those currently enrolled to meet up.

Gwinnett County TOTY Finalists

Recently, the Gwinnett County School System announced the names of the 25 semifinalists for the 2011 Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year (TOTY) honor. The group of 15 elementary, 5 middle, and 5 high school teachers was selected from an initial list of 123 local school Teachers of the Year who were nominated by their colleagues at their local schools.

The 2011 Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year will be announced on Thursday, November 4. This years semi-finalists are, as followed:

Gwinnett County Student Earns a Perfect ACT Score

Atlanta, GA--  The ACT college entrance exam assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work.  Eric Awtry, a senior at Mill Creek High School, is one of the very few students in America that will be sending prospective colleges a perfect ACT (American College Testing) score.

The ACT is scored on a scale of 1 to 36 and consists of English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science. The students' composite score is the average of the 4 subject scores.

Eric is currently taking AP Physics and AP Calculus, and plans to pursue a career in Aerospace Engineering.
