DeKalb County School District goes wireless

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- The DeKalb County School District is now 100% wireless.

Superintendent Michael Thurmond announced Monday that the district has completed a $4.5 million project to install wireless technology in every classroom.

"With this achievement, technology-based learning becomes part of the everyday classroom experience," Thurmond said in a statement. "No longer must students take turns in a computer lab or rely solely on hard-wired technology."

The school district boasts 15,000 new desktop computers and more than 2,600 SMART Boards. Teachers carry mobile devices to make the school day run more smoothly; they use this technology to take attendance, monitor student discipline and perform classroom observations.
