It's almost pool party time. We've got new bikinis and can't wait to break them in. But before most public pools "officially" open Memorial Day weekend we decided to give a refresher in pool/beach etiquette. ‘Tragically , not everyone was born knowing how to act at the pool or beach.  Unfortunately, there are some people who really need to be told not to poo, pee, spit, or blow their nose in a pool. For those of you who know better bear with us, and for those of you who don't, read on!

DeKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Every year, Keep DeKalb Beautiful (KDB) participates in the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup initiative.

In these difficult economic times, it is even more important that volunteers contribute toward efforts to sustain beautiful, healthy, thriving communities.

Throughout the month of April, local residents helped beautify DeKalb by cleaning up dirty streets, waterways and illegal dumpsites, as well as greening up parks, schoolyards, MARTA bus stops and other public spaces.

EAST METRO AREA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Join the people of Conyers for a bike ride through Olde Town Conyers. This 4.5 mile group ride is open to kids and adults on the historical streets of Conyers. This ride is held every fourth Sunday of every month. Meet at the railroad depot area at 4:00 p.m.

Check out the Divine Intervention exhibit of African Art and Religion at the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University. This free exhibit is open daily and it showcases different masks and art, along with rituals observed in indigenous African religion.

Callanwolde Fine Arts Center hosts their Tango Night on Friday, April 22. Learn to dance to tango by focusing on rhythm and movement. No partner is necessary and lessons, taught by a Tango expert, begin at 8:00 p.m. And around 9:30 p.m.

Notice of Minor Sewer Spill

Lithonia, GA--  The Department of Watershed Management of Dekalb County released a notice of a sanitary sewer spill at 4:40 pm this afternoon.  The location of the spill is at 5100 Rocksprings Rd., Lithonia 30038

The substance of the spill is grease, and it was pressured washed clear to stop it from getting into the creek.

DeKalb Citizens to Hold Community Meeting Feb. 16

SCOTTDALE, GA -- Residents of Scottdale are holding a community meeting at the Tobie Grant Recreation Center (644 Parkdale Drive, 30079) on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 6:45 p.m.

The meeting will address DeKalb County citizens' concerns about the proposed closing of the recreation center.

Tobie Grant Recreation Center is a 14-acre facility that includes a multi-use field, swimming pool, playground and nature trails. It is one of five public spaces that the county is slated to close in order to save money.

Valentine's Day is a Time for Marriage or to Renew Vows in Gwinnett

Gwinnett County, GA--  (submitted by Gwinnett Courthouse)  Celebrate this Valentine's Day by joining other couples at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse on Monday, February 14 from 10:00am to 4:00pm in the old Justice of the Peace Office (Room 103) where Magistrate Court judges will perform Valentine's Day wedding ceremonies or perform special ceremonies to renew wedding vows.

Couples who are getting married must obtain a valid marriage license prior to February 14 and bring the original marriage license to the ceremony. Contact Probate Court at 770.822.8250 for information on obtaining your marriage license. Couples who are renewing their wedding vows do not need to bring a copy of their wedding license. All services are FREE, and no appointment is necessary.
