DeKalb County to Host Showcase, Grand Opening

Dekalb County, GA --  DeKalb County will continue its celebration of National County Government Month with a county showcase tomorrow, April 9, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Northlake Mall, 4800 Briarcliff Road in Atlanta. The county will also host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:30 p.m. for the OneDeKalb Neighborhood Resource Center, located on the lower level of the mall near Macy’s.

The showcase brings county departments together in one place, offering citizens an opportunity to learn about resources available through county government.

CEO Burrell Ellis Tells Feds Proposed Budget Cuts Hurt Dekalb County

Dekalb County, GA--  (submitted by Dekalb Communications) CEO Burrell Ellis joined fellow county chief executives in Washington this weekend to oppose $60 billion in proposed budget cuts scheduled for a vote by the U. S. House this week. If implemented, these cuts would cost the county more than $10 million this year.

“Congress is considering $60 billion in cuts, which could mean an additional 700,000 jobs lost,” said CEO Ellis. “DeKalb County stands to lose $9.9 million in 2011, alone.”

March 15th Special Election 1 Week Away

Gwinnett County, GA--  (submitted by Gwinnett Communications)  The special election to fill the unexpired term of chairman of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners will take place on Tuesday, March 15 from 7:00am to 7:00pm at your voting precinct. Voters can also request an absentee ballot for the special election. A completed application must first be received before an absentee ballot is issued. Please call the Voter Registration and Elections division at 678.226.7210 to request an application or complete the form online.

Commissioners Host Citizens’ Forum

LAWRENCEVILLE – Gwinnett County Commissioners will l host the last, in a series of Citizens’ Forums’, tonight at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse.

This forum was designed to open the floor to county citizens to share their thoughts on how to meet the needs of Gwinnett County residents and businesses. All citizens are invited to attend.

The forum will begin at 7PM. The Gwinnett Historic Courthouse is located at 185 Crogan Street in Lawrenceville.

Gwinnett County, GA--  While a lawsuit has not been resolved involving service delivery contracts between the county and cities, it has widely been reported that county police and city police departments have lost their right to run radar guns.  This fact as trickled down to residents and commuters whom continue to believe they are now free to speed, because the police have lost their ability to track and catch offenders.

Speeders beware.  Sheriff Butch Conway of the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department has enlisted his officers to turn their radar guns ON to catch speeders and to continue to ticket individuals.  

The fact that the Gwinnett Sheriff is an elected officer and that his Sheriff's Department is not a department who reports or answers to the Board of Commissioners, they are not subject to the sanctions from the pending lawsuit and can still use radar.

DeKalb County will Host 4 Public Information Meetings on Transportation Projects

Dekalb County, GA--  4 neighborhood public information meetings are being held to provide input into the proposed transportation projects that must be submitted to the Georgia DOT by March 30th, 2011.

Each city and county has until March 30, 2011 to submit proposed projects that will be considered by the GDOT Planning Director and the Regional Roundtable of city and county leaders from which they will select a constrained project list that will be recommended for the 2012 Referendum.

These four public information meetings will be important opportunities for DeKalb residents and businesses to ensure that all ideas are considered.
