DeKalb County State Court Division V Art Challenge Contest

DeKalb County State Court Division V Art Challenge Contest

DECATUR – DeKalb County State Court Judge Eleanor L. Ross announced a Division V Art Challenge Contest in September for middle and high school students in the DeKalb County School System.

Newly appointed to the State Court bench, Judge Ross is looking for creative ideas to promote two of her passions: children and her community. She conceptualized the art contest to encourage middle and high school artists to share their talent. As a result, Elizabeth Eppes, the Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator for the K-12 DeKalb County School System was contacted and asked to distribute the contest to all DeKalb County Schools.

The response was overwhelming with more than 10 schools responding. Judge Ross also reached out to the community and contacted a local art supply company (Binders Art Supplies and Frames) and inquired if they would be interested in partnering with her.

The White House Visits Powertalk

The White House Visits Powertalk

It was an exciting day on Powertalk w/ Lorraine Jacques White today, as Valerie B. Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama, stopped by to chat about the American Jobs Act and how it will impact and benefit African Americans.

As you know, the African American community is the one group that has been hardest hit by the economic crisis, and despite the fact that private sector jobs have been added over the past 19 months, still, too many Americans are without work. Valerie Jarrett had a few words to say that helped to clear up the issue and let the Powertalk audience know where we’ll go from here.

What are your thoughts on the state of the economy? Will President Obama be able to pull out a save for African Americans and the nation as a whole? #SoundOff
