Miller Grove senior named Gatorade Ga. Boys Basketball Player of the Year

LITHONIA, Ga. -- A Miller Grove High School student-athlete has been named the 2011-2012 Gatorade Georgia Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Senior Tony Parker is the first Miller Grove student to receive the honor.

At 6-feet-9-inches tall, Parker is a force to be reckoned with on the court. He led the Wolverines to a 23-9 record and the Class AAAA state championship this season, averaging 16.2 points per game.

Parker also maintains a 3.0 GPA, volunteers for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and the Special Olympics, and participates in annual food and clothing drives for needy families. In addition to the Gatorade honor, he was a 2012 McDonald's All-American Game selection and a 2012 Jordan Brand Classic game invitee.

"Tony Parker has been a force in our region for the last two years," said Adam Griffin, head coach at rival Dunwoody High School. "His game has improved each year and he consistently plays hard no matter the outcome of the game."
