DeKalb residents fight for 5 years over eyesore property


STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Residents in a DeKalb County neighborhood have become used to the abandoned house that’s been an eyesore for five long years, but after the property’s recently become a dumping ground for old tires, neighbors are fed up.

Estranged husband shoots wife's friend at nightclub


LITHONIA, Ga. -- Police are on the trail of a suspect after a bar shooting in Lithonia early Monday.

Police said the shooting happened at a bar called DaBomb in the 2800 block of Evans Mills Road.

DeKalb police said a 27-year-old man was shot at the bar but then driven to his home by a witness who said the shooter was her estranged husband. 

From the home, someone called an ambulance and the victim was transported to Grady Hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses on the scene said the said he was the driver's boyfriend..

Names and other information regarding the suspect and victims have not yet been released.

The 5th annual Livvy’s Love Fun Run took place at Stone Mountain Park.

 

The non-profit has donated more than $28,000 to help underprivileged youth.
 


Suspect shot after alleged break-in attempt at officer's home


LITHONIA, Ga. -- Police have identified an officer who shot an alleged home intruder Saturday in DeKalb County. 

The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. in Lithonia. Police said the robber broke into the home of David Sutton, a six-year veteran of the Atlanta Police Department.

Police said the officer opened fire on the suspect, hitting him once.

The injured suspect left the home and tried to drive himself to DeKalb Medical Center.

Officers were following him and he was taken to Grady hospital to receive treatment.

Police seek missing special needs woman


STONE MOUNTAIN -- Police in DeKalb are looking for a woman who went missing from a special needs group home in Stone Mountain in late December.

Police said 18-year-old Symone Atkins was last seen on Dec. 29. Police added Atkins has the mental capacity of a 12-year-old.

She is described as a black female who is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 135 pounds.

Anyone with information on Atkins's location is asked to call DeKalb County Police Special Victims Unit at 770-724-7710.
