LITHONIA: Teen arrested after bringing gun to school

LITHONIA, Ga. -- A 14 year-old 8th grader is under arrest after police said he brought a loaded handgun to school Thursday morning.

According to Rodney Jenkins of the DeKalb County Schools, the teen is a student at Salem Middle School. Jenkins said the boy hid the gun behind the auditorium stage when he arrived at school Thursday morning.

After some students who knew of the gun told school administrators, DeKalb County police were notified.

Jenkins said that when the teen was confronted by police, he had already retrieved the weapon from behind the stage and was carrying it on him. Officers subdued the boy, wrestling him to the ground and arresting him.

There was no word on why the boy brought the gun to school.
