GBI releases new info on man who died after police altercation

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation released new details regarding an officer-involved altercation that ended with one man dead.

According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, officers were called to a home on Rock Place Drive in unincorporated Stone Mountain around 4 a.m.

The caller said that a man - later identified as George Mann - was irate and possibly armed while locked in his garage.

An altercation ensued when five officers went to make contact with the man, according to police.

The GBI said that police stunned the man with a taser when he resisted officers.

The man went unresponsive at the scene and was transported to Eastside Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A gun and suspected methamphetamine were found in the garage.

A specific cause of death has not been released.
