DeKalb Co. police officer shot; suspect killed


DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- A DeKalb County police officer is in serious condition after being shot several times early Sunday.

According to police, the incident happened at the Marquis Pointe apartment complex in Stone Mountain. Around 2 a.m., police received multiple calls that a man was firing a gun in the complex. When officers arrived, the suspect was gone.

Around 3:30 a.m., police received a call that a man was knocking on a woman's door.

When two officers responded, they said the man began firing. One officer was struck several times. He returned fire, killing the suspect.

DeKalb County Police Captain Steven Fore identified the injured officer as Chester Lamb, a seven-year veteran of the force. He is in serious but stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital, according to Fore.

The suspect was identified as Frederick Farmer.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.
