Local Lighting Design Company Creates ‘Firefly’ Lanterns for Foundation for Mitochondrial Research

Forsyth-based The Outdoor Lights, Inc. Creates Custom-Designed ‘Firefly’ Lanterns to Help Raise Funds and Awareness for Mitochondrial Disease and Research

The Outdoor Lights, an award-winning lighting design and installation firm headquartered in Forsyth County, is doing their part in the hopes of one day fueling hope for children and adults suffering from Mitochondrial disease. The company created a custom, one-of-a-kind ‘firefly’ lantern to raise awareness and funds for The Foundation for Mitochondrial Medicine, (www.foundmm.org), an organization dedicated to funding research for mitochondrial disease.

Mitochondria are tiny parts of cells in the human body that create energy.  When they work correctly, they are power plants for the body.

6 Tips For Gardening with Limited Space and Money

6 Tips For Gardening with Limited Space and Money

Gardening is an addiction, and so is the desire to eat freshly picked produce. Yet apartment living, shrinking yards and expanding garages leave many without enough room to create even a small garden.  To enjoy summer’s bounty, we ultimately resort to the higher prices of farmers markets or natural food stores and, even then,
the produce often doesn’t have that unbeatable fresh flavor.

So what’s a fresh-food addict to do? Here are six ways to work around space limitations that will fulfill your addiction without requiring a major cash outlay.

Summer in Georgia & peaches for weeks: What to do with those sweet GA peaches

Summer in Georgia & peaches for weeks: What to do with those sweet GA peaches

Atlanta, GA --  The blog Running With Tweezers has a great article including a variety of great recipes for this year's peaches.  If you have had one of this year's peaches you know they are just delicious!!!  Whether you want to make ice cream, a cake or a cobbler, @RunningWithTweezers.com has the perfect recipe for you.

Around here, we’re really fortunate to have summers full of local peaches. Growing up, they were one of my dad’s favorite foods and they made appearances at our house fairly regularly. Sliced on pound cake or angel food cake, on top of cottage cheese the old school way. In the colder months, he’d even eat canned peaches straight up with a spoon. While I’m not a proponent of the tinned variety, I’m a huge fan of the fresh ones grown here in the South.
