Dekalb County Board Of Health hosts Lunch and Learn

DECATUR – (submitted by DeKalb Board of Health) The DeKalb County Board of Health will hold a series of Lunch and Learn education sessions to educate residents of DeKalb County about a variety of health and living topics—from how to buy more nutritious foods for your family, to child development stages of babies.

The first session will be held on Monday, March 14 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will be titled:  “Learn How to Be Smoke-Free.”

The classes will be held at the One DeKalb Neighborhood Resource Center located at Northlake Mall on the lower level near Macy’s.  The mall is at the intersection of Briarcliff and LaVista roads.

The DeKalb Cooperative Extension is offering innovative, up-to-date gardening and landscaping training; training that is both practical and useful and is full of information that can be taken home and used right away. All of the speakers are experts in their areas and know how to make the subjects educational as well as fun. The overall goal of this series is to provide information that will help DeKalb County homeowners save time, save money and learn the essential fundamentals of gardening that will last a lifetime; all the while improving the quality of life year after year.

Below are two gardening series entitled “Enhancing Life Through Gardening 2011” and “2011 Home Gardening” that will begin Feb. 15, 2011 and end Dec. 3, 2011.  All eighteen workshops will be held at the DeKalb County Cooperative Extension Training Facility located at 4380 Memorial Drive in Decatur.

Invited guests include State Representatives Simone Bell and Stacey Abrams; DeKalb County District Attorney Robert D. James; representatives from Medicare, the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management, the Department of Public Works and the Atlanta Police Department.

Like its national cousin, this season of "Atlanta's Biggest Loser" is a couples' edition. Any kind of couple can apply -- siblings, parent/child, co-workers, friends and every pairing in between.

Atlanta, GA--  The Wellness Tour will offer all adults 18 and over six Free Health Screenings: bone density, cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, waist circumference and body mass analysis.

No appointment is necessary, results are immediate and from start to finish all 6 screenings take around 20-25 minutes.

The free screenings are conducted inside the vehicle and are valued at more than $140. Additionally, free one-year AARP memberships will be given to all adults who receive screenings.
