Visit the Green Products EXPO, in conjunction with One DeKalb Neighborhood Summit, on 11/17

Atlanta, GA--  The Green Commission of DeKalb County and Commissioner Kathie Gannon invite all citizens to join them at a Green Products EXPO, in conjunction with One DeKalb Neighborhood Summit, on Saturday, Nov 13, 2010, 9am – 12:00pm, at Georgia Perimeter College – Clarkston campus.

The Green Expo is an opportunity for DeKalb County residents to learn the latest information about environmentally friendly products and services.  Twenty seven local companies and non-profit organizations that help consumers save energy, conserve natural resources and use recycled materials will demonstrate their products and services. There will also be a document shredder on site for the public.

Gwinnett County will Host the Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m

Atlanta, GA--  Gwinnett County will host the annual Veterans Day ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial in Lawrenceville. The public is invited to attend this observance to pay tribute to the men and women who have served honorably in the military, during wartime or peacetime, and to memorialize the fallen heroes who have sacrificed their lives to protect our nation.

 Gwinnett County commissioners and County Administrator Glenn Stephens will lead this year's ceremony. The keynote speaker will be by Brig. Gen. Jerry J. Bradford. Honor guard units from the Gwinnett County Police, Fire and Emergency Services and Sheriff's Departments and the Lawrenceville Police Department will also take part in the event.

The Veterans Day Ceremony will be televised at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 on TVgwinnett, the county's local government access cable channel.

11th Annual Indian Festival and Pow-Wow, Nov. 4-7, Comes back to Stone Mountain Park

Atlanta, GA--  Georgia’s most visited attraction, Stone Mountain Park, presents four days of Native American culture, history and tradition at the 11th Annual Indian Festival and Pow-Wow, Nov. 4-7. With more than 50 tribes represented, the event is considered the largest gathering of its kind in the state.

Black Religious Scholars Group Holds 13th Annual Meeting on October 29th

Atlanta, GA--  The Black Religious Scholars Group’s (BRSG) thirteenth annual consultation entitled Making It Plain: Unmasking the Cultural Production of Evil in the Black Church and the World at Large,” is being held at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church located at 407 Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to the host church, Ebenezer Baptist Church, this event is co-hosted by the Candler School of Theology of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Stories of Courage” Brunch at The Conference Center at DeKalb Technical College

All Breast Cancer survivors are invited to commemorate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the “Stories of Courage” Brunch.

The purpose of this Brunch is to celebrate the courage of women and families dealing with cancer and share information on resources available for cancer prevention and treatment.

“Stories of Courage” is being held by AID Africa, in conjunction with The Educational Economic Development and Training Program, Inc. and other community organizations. The brunch includes a panel discussion where survivors, family care givers and practitioners share stories of what has worked to make a difference in their lives. Exhibitors will be on hand to provide information community resources available for cancer prevention, detection and treatment.

Twanda Black, a KISS 104.1 disc jockey, will be moderating the brunch which starts at 10:00 a.m.

100 Black Women’s DeKalb Chapter Honor 12 Breast Cancer Survivors for Annual Pink & Black Affair

Atlanta, GA--  The Decatur-DeKalb Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (NCBW) will celebrate the strength and triumphs of thirteen great women during the Sixth Annual Pink & Black Affair at the Holiday Inn Select in downtown Decatur on Saturday, November 6th at 7:00 pm. The Chapter’s purpose is to honor local breast cancer survivors and raise funds for the organization’s Legacy Programs and for local breast cancer research.
