KDB to Host Tree Pick-Up, 'Bring One for the Chipper'

KDB to Host Tree Pick-Up, 'Bring One for the Chipper'

DEKALB COUNTY, GA -- Keep DeKalb Beautiful (KDB) and the DeKalb County Sanitation Division will celebrate the 20th annual "Bring One for the Chipper" event in January.

KDB asks that DeKalb County residents recycle their Christmas trees after the holidays through the DeKalb County Sanitation Division's Curbside Recycling Program.

DeKalb residents receiving sanitation services can place their tree at the curb for pick-up on regular yard collection waste day. Trees should be seven feet or smaller; trees eight feet or larger must be cut in half for pick-up.

The recycled trees will be chipped into mulch or used as wildlife habitat. Mulch is used for public beautification projects and is also available free to DeKalb County residents.

Annual “Bring One for the Chipper” Event

Dekalb County, GA--  Keep DeKalb Beautiful (KDB) and the DeKalb County Sanitation Division will celebrate the 20th Annual “Bring One for the Chipper” event in January 2011.

Every year, Keep DeKalb Beautiful sponsors "Bring One for the Chipper" as part of a Statewide effort to recycle Christmas trees. This annual event continues the tradition of trading a used Christmas tree for a tree seedling, while supplies last. Citizens have the option to submit used trees to designated drop-off points in DeKalb County. Residents who are currently serviced by DeKalb County Sanitation Division  may also leave their trees for curbside pick-up. The Christmas trees are recycled by chipping them into mulch for use in landscaping, or by using them as fish and wildlife habitats.

Last year, more than 200,000 trees were recycled in the State of Georgia. Over 10,000 of those trees were from DeKalb citizens.
