5K Walk at Stone Mountain Park to Help Raise Awareness of Childhood Obesity

Stone Mountain, GA -- (from Live Healthy and Thrive) Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation will hold a "Walk for Healthy Kids" 5K Walk at Stone Mountain Park on April 23. This grassroots fundraiser is the inaugural walk for the Foundation and all proceeds will benefit the non-profit organization.

The Atlanta Braves have partnered with the Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation to offer free home-game tickets compliments of the "Reach Out Be Our Guest" Program for the walk participants who raise the most money in donations for the 5K Walk.

The 5K walk will be held Saturday, April 23 at Stone Mountain Park from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. Walkers will convene at the Studdard Picnic Area. Pre- registration is a $10 donation and includes complimentary beverages and a souvenir t-shirt.

The Decatur-DeKalb Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women will host its annual Red, White & Sparkle Wine Tasting Benefit.  Set for Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Yorkshire Clubhouse (4328 Magnolia Path; Decatur, GA 30034), guests can expect a fun filled evening complete with great food, great wine selections and great company all benefitting an excellent cause. A sommelier (wine professional) will be onsite to facilitate a fun and educational wine sip.

Proceeds benefit The Legacy Program, a young women's mentoring and leadership institute designed to transform our young girls into tomorrow's community leaders.

The Decatur/DeKalb Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women’s (NCBW) announced that the date of its Annual Financial Boot Camp set Saturday April 30, 2011 at DeKalb Medical Center – Hillandale’s Community Room (2801 DeKalb Medical Parkway; Lithonia, GA 30058) from 9 am. to 12 p.m. This year’s seminar, sponsored by State Farm Insurance – Lem Howard Agency (Evans Mill Road, Lithonia), will focus on youth financial responsibility, retirement options for adults of all  ages, money management, real estate and social security. “As a community, we must take a good look at our options for financial stability and the Decatur-DeKalb Chapter has been dedicated to providing our community with an annual forum where they can get the necessary information that we all need to remain financially secure in this economy,” said Kimberly Cameron, Chapter President.
