DeKalb government goes on the road

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- The DeKalb County government was a big hit at this year's Tucker Day festival. Now, the county is bringing its Show on the Road tour to DeKalb Peachtree Airport.

Interim CEO Lee May organized Show on the Road, where government departments create exhibits to give citizens an idea of the programs and services they provide.

Participating government agencies include DeKalb Fire Rescue, the DeKalb Police Department, the DeKalb County Library, DeKalb County Superior Court, DeKalb County Juvenile Court and Keep DeKalb Beautiful.

Show on the Road will be at PDK's Good Neighbor Day Open House Airshow on Saturday, May 17 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The airport is located at 2000 Airport Road in the Chamblee area.

(WXIA) -- Several Southern states were slammed by severe weather earlier this week, including Lincoln County, Tenn., which experienced a devastating tornado.

Those who want to contribute to the community's rebuilding fund can now do so, simply by eating at Chili's.

On Sunday, May 4, more than 60 Chili's restaurants in Georgia and Tennessee will contribute 10 percent of the day's earnings to the Lincoln County Disaster Relief Fund.

Chili's diners can also make monetary donations by adding extra money to their check totals.

Hosea Feed the Hungry estimates it will feed 10,000 families during its MLK Day meal, which began at 10 a.m. at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park.

More than 3,000 people rolled up their sleeves to serve with Hands On Atlanta, beautifying such areas as City of Refuge and Chastain Memorial Park.

Georgia Power employees spent the day volunteering at Lutheran Towers, a housing development for seniors in Midtown Atlanta. They also assembled, labeled and distributed collection boxes at Rockdale Emergency Relief in Conyers.

Random Acts of Kindness: Jillian Serfozo

Random Acts of Kindness: Jillian Serfozo

ATLANTA -- Today's random act of kindness is for Jillian Serfozo.

Jillian is a 5th grader at Morningside Elementary School. Each morning at school she helps escort the students with special needs from their school buses to their classrooms and back. She is known by other students and teachers as an "ambassador of kindness" and is constantly seen doing kind things for others.

Thanks to a generous donation from Stone Mountain Park, 11Alive surprised Jillian with tickets for her and her family to enjoy Snow Mountain as a random act of kindness.
