Team DeKalb Returns to “March for Babies”

DECATUR – (DeKalb County) DeKalb County Government will join metro-Atlanta citizens and businesses to support the March of Dimes March for Babies on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Georgia World Congress Center.  Additionally, Team DeKalb is hosting its first ever “Employee Only” basketball tournament in support of fundraising efforts on Saturday, March 12, 2011, 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., at Redan Recreation Center, located at 1839 Phillips Road in Lithonia.

DeKalb County has been a supporter of March for Babies for nine years, raising more than $89,033.31.  Final numbers from last year’s efforts showed that Team DeKalb raised $26,616.61.  Additional efforts from our partners, DeKalb County School System and the DeKalb Medical Center, helped increase our final 2010 results.  According to the Atlanta March of Dimes Office, DeKalb County was ranked 10th for the top team raising money.

Continuing our slogan for this year “Save a Baby, Give a Dollar,” we are also seeking 300 walkers from DeKalb in support of our fundraising goal of $30,000.

Supporters can participate by giving gifts of time, energy and money to help the cause.  Funds raised by March for Babies support programs including Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Family Support Programs at local hospitals and community grants targeting Georgia’s most high-risk groups through education and prenatal care.

The admission price for the basketball tournament is $ 5 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12 and free for children 4 and under. The public is encouraged to attend and support the fundraising efforts on behalf of Team DeKalb.  All admission proceeds will benefit March of Dimes March for Babies.
