Atlanta Urban League Young Professionals 'Dream Catchers' Gala Honors Key Stakeholders in Atlanta

ATLANTA -- "What's Happenin' in SWAT (SW ATL)..." Did you know... On August 12, 2011 (7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.), the Atlanta Urban League Young Professionals (AULYP) will host its annual signature awards gala, Dream Catchers.

The event which was designed to honor local community leaders who exemplify excellence in serving their community and high school seniors who demonstrate excellence in academics, will take place at the Bill Lowe Art Gallery (1555 Peachtree Street #100, Atlanta).  Nina Brown of WXIA-TV 11 Alive News will serve as the mistress of ceremonies for the occasion.

This year’s award nominees represent key stakeholders in the Atlanta community who were identified based on their work in areas relevant to AULYP’s empowerment initiatives: education; economic growth; health and quality of life; civic engagement and leadership; and civil rights and racial justice.

During the event AULYP’s Scholarship will be presented to 5 graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and a strong commitment to service and the AULYP’s empowerment initiatives.

In addition honoring men and women of excellence, guests will have the opportunity to mingle, enjoy the sounds of live music, participate in our silent auction, and take in the ambiance and artistry of the Bill Lowe Art Gallery.

Tickets are $35 in advance and $45 at the door. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Founder’s Scholarship Program that provides two high school seniors with $1000 towards their education.

The mission of the AULYP is rooted in the strategic imperatives of the National Urban League which focuses on empowerment in five core areas: education, economic, health/quality of life, civic engagement/leadership and civil rights/racial justice. These goals are accomplished by supporting the Urban League of Greater Atlanta (ULGA) locally and engaging young professionals in the AUL’s movement towards the achievement of social and economic equality. As a national award winning chapter, AULYP works to strengthen its members by encouraging them to achieve balance in their lives as they work to strengthen their communities.
