DECATUR, Ga. – This week, Dinners on a Dime features local Cinco de Mayo eats. Every Tuesday Where U Live will choose four favorite eats in your area for you to take your family and friends for a fabulous meal, under $20.

At Los Loros Mexican Restaurant the fish tacos are “excellent” and the margaritas are “tasty”. This neighborhood restaurant is a favorite to people who live in the area. Guest favorites include fish tacos and the beef enchilada. The signature margarita is mixed with tequila and Gran Marnier, making it the menu highlight. Visit the restaurant for their Cino de Mayo celebration at 1248 Clairmont Road in Decatur.

The Monterrey Mexican Restaurant in Tucker is known for their Mega-Margaritas, great service and always fresh salsa. On Cinco de Mayo the restaurant will offer food and drink specials, however, nothing on the regular menu exceeds $15.

Smoking sections could become slimmer in DeKalb County

Smoking sections could become slimmer in DeKalb County

DECATUR, Ga. – Are you ready for a smoke-free DeKalb County? If so, you could get your wish. Last month, the DeKalb County Board of Health voted to amend the county’s current Clean Indoor Air Ordinance. If adopted, the suggested revisions would make the county’s businesses, parks and facilities completely smoke-free.

According to the DeKalb County Board of Health, the currently ordinance:

“Allows smoking at free-standing bars, adult entertainment establishments and outdoor venues, including parks”.

This amendment would ban smoking in those places, playgrounds, entrances and exits to buildings, outdoor entertainment venues and outdoor service lines and would decreases the number of rooms a hotel can designate for smoking from 25 percent to 10 percent.

The amended ordinance has been submitted to the Board of Commissioners for their consideration and adoption.

THIRTY FOUR YEARS – THE ATLANTA JAZZ FESTIVAL

THIRTY FOUR YEARS – THE ATLANTA JAZZ FESTIVAL

In the mid-70s a spirit of cultural renaissance swept into the city of Atlanta, coinciding with the historic election of Maynard Jackson as the city’s first African American mayor. Propelling the renaissance, Mayor Jackson established the Bureau of Cultural Affairs in 1974 at the start of his first term in office. With his second election in 1977, he put forth the idea to spotlight jazz in the city, because, as he said, “Jazz music is America’s only original art form, and I think Atlanta, with its growing reputation as an international center of the arts and education, has both the opportunity and the responsibility to promote an art form whose roots are indigenous to the South.”
