DeKalb County Youth Commission Application Deadline Has been Extended Due to the Winter Storms

Dekalb County, GA--  (submitted by the Dekalb County Government)  Due to the January Winter Storm, DeKalb County Schools and Georgia highways were closed.  As a result, we are extending The Youth Commission application deadline. DeKalb County Youth Commission was approved in the March 2008 county budget. This program will cater to DeKalb County 10th and 11th graders. Students must be a resident of DeKalb County and currently enrolled in a DeKalb County High School.

Last year, DeKalb County Commissioner Lee May launched the DeKalb County Youth Commission. Many of the participants from the inaugural group, chosen to participate in the hands-on leadership training program, have now graduated from high school leaving vacancies to be filled.

“The Youth Commission is a valuable asset to DeKalb County and will work in harmony with Board of Commissioners to resolve the pressing issues facing our youth and county as a whole,” says May.

Students can download an application packet at www.leemaydistrict5.com or contact their high school counselor. Application deadline has been extended to Friday, March 11th by 5pm due to the January Winter Storm.  For additional information, please contact Carolyn Frisby, Program Coordinator, at (404) 370-8178, or e-mail: cmfrisby@dekalbcountyga.gov .
