Events, Families

Atlanta, GA--  The Black Religious Scholars Group’s (BRSG) thirteenth annual consultation entitled Making It Plain: Unmasking the Cultural Production of Evil in the Black Church and the World at Large,” is being held at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church located at 407 Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to the host church, Ebenezer Baptist Church, this event is co-hosted by the Candler School of Theology of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

The purpose of the BRSG’s annual consultation is to generate meaningful and empowering dialogue that unites the Black Church, the Black community, and scholars in Black religion in order to confront the most provocative issues confronting African Americans today. Given the news of recent weeks, the current state of the Black Church is facing a historic crossroads moment in which it can face a future defined by either immense tragedy or incredible triumph. In this spirit, the BRSG invites members of the greater Metro Atlanta area will participate in this vital conversation about the future of the Black Church and the African American community as we try to work through these challenges in the hopes of envisioning new possibilities.

The event begins at 7:00 p.m. with a worship service to be followed by the panel discussion with nationally acclaimed Black clergy, scholars, and community activists. The moderator for the event will be Rev. Dr. Teresa Fry Brown, Professor of Homiletics and Director of Black Church Studies, Candler School of Theology at Emory University. The panelists include:
